Baldwin 44-inch Console Piano – Acrosonic model.
Considered to be a hybrid between a console and a studio upright and because of its styling and slightly shorter size it is usually referred to as a consolette piano. However, it has a full-sized piano-action just like the one in a 45-inch-tall studio upright piano. Its additional height allows the key sticks to be lowered at the tail to allow the full-sized piano-action to fit into an instrument of this size. This design is called the Baldwin Exclusive Full-Blow Action™. Additional length in the levers of the piano-action is a much better physics and leverage situation allowing the Baldwin model 2090 console piano to play with the same wide dynamic range and expression as the 45-inch studio upright size model. It is easier to service too, due to the larger individual parts, longer levers and more room. That saves time and money. Baldwin piano-actions have a well-deserved reputation for reliability and being low-maintenance. So, this model has the beauty of a designer console with the performance and feel of a plain-looking studio upright.

Baldwin has sold more pianos than any other American piano manufacturer over 160 years.
“America’s Favorite Piano.”
Its elegant furniture styling is warm, full of character and utterly timeless. The cabinet’s tight-grained mahogany satin lacquer finish is dark, rich and vibrant. It would be a good fit for a formal room with other dark furniture, a den or a library. The elaborately carved, floral-themed music rack and the regal round, fluted legs complete the style. The music desk is sturdy enough for heavy music books and a wide sheet music lip allows room for longer musical scores. The original matching bench with storage is included and it’s legs have the very same graceful design as the pianos’. There are three functional pedals – damper, bass sustain and soft. They and the cabinet hardware are solid brass. Whether played or not, this piano can be the handsome focal point of a beautiful space in your home.

The upright piano lid is propped open for better tone escapement and sustain.

Due to low recurring service costs Baldwin pianos have been popular in music conservatories, colleges, universities, places of worship and any other institutional situation. They are affordable, offer a great value and have sold more pianos in the US market than any other American manufacturer. Among the general public, Baldwin has been one of the most beloved and well-respected pianos in the industry and many are passed down through generations of families. Musically, many popular pieces we are familiar with have been recorded on Baldwin pianos. But they are also durable and built like Sherman tanks. Their rugged construction assures a longer life for the piano. As a result, many private piano teachers desiring a worry-free instrument have Baldwin pianos in their studios and recommend them to their students.

My grandmother had a Baldwin, my mom had one and I’ll have one too!
The Acrosonic was introduced to the public in 1936 and immediately became the number-one selling model in the industry and continued to be until the 1990’s when it became a console piano. The product name may have a dated marketing vibe to it, and perhaps, sound a little corny. But, at the time it was a modern and trendy brand name combining science and ancient history. Akros, a Greek word meaning extreme, summit or topmost, also meaning “expanded” in a way, became “Acro”. The Acropolis is the citadel at the summit or highest point of Athens, Greece, named after Athena, the Greek Goddess and protector of the city. “Sonic” derives from Sonus in Greek and denotes “sound”. Therefore, the model’s name, Acrosonic refers to the “expanded sound” of this smaller piano. The name was patented and is registered in the US Patent Office.

The sturdy back construction is built like a Sherman tank and assists in tuning stability.
