Extended console 42-1/2″ Baldwin piano

This 42-1/2” model can be considered a hybrid between a console and a studio upright but because of its styling and size, it is usually referred to as a console.  However, it has a full-size action just like the one in a studio piano.  The keys are lowered at the back to allow the full-size action to fit in an instrument this small.  This is called the Baldwin Exclusive Full-Blow Action.  Additional length in the levers is a much better leverage situation.  The Baldwin model 4024 console piano plays with the same wide dynamic range and accuracy as the studio size model.  It is easier to service too, due to the larger individual parts and longer levers.

It features the same patented Synchro-tone Bass Strings as the studio and grand piano models.  They last years longer than standard strings and provide a pleasing, strong, clear bass response.  The same 19-ply pinblock with 19 fingers gripping the tuning pins is found in both the studio and 4000-series.  This insures excellent tuning stability and lower maintenance needed.  It also provides the pianist a better musical experience with an in-tune instrument.  They feature a heavy-duty back with extra thick backposts.  The plate was cast in the O.S. Kelly plant in the US; later plates were imported from Brazil.  It is sturdy as well as being a fine musical instrument.

Built in 1985, this piano has been in Albuquerque most of its life so it is happily acclimated to our unique climate.  It is in excellent condition – structurally and aesthetically.  There is minimal wear throughout the moving parts of the action and trapwork.  Other than tuning, very little had to be done for this piano.  It ought to provide decades of musical enjoyment and creativity.  The styling of the Baldwin model 4024 console piano is Mediterranean and the finish veneers are light pecan.  The 4000-series is the Decorator cabinet style of the more well-known 2000-series.  They have more flourishes and interesting design elements and the fanciest furniture Baldwin offers.  The original matching bench with storage is included.  88 Keys Piano Warehouse & Showroom price – $2450.

The famous Baldwin Scale Design made the Acrosonic range of models the most popular in American piano building history.  Akros, a Greek word meaning “extreme or topmost” became Acro – “Expanded”.  Sonic denotes “sound”.  Therefore, the model name Acrosonic refers to the “Expanded sound” of this smaller piano.  Not to be confused with earlier Acrosonic models that were spinets, they became consoles in the year this piano was built.
