Kawai model RX-2 Grand Piano

Kawai model RX-2 Grand Piano

Kawai Classic Salon Grand Piano.

The RX-2 was one of the most popular models of the award-winning RX Series line of grand pianos first introduced in 1995. As a collection, they were chosen “Acoustic Piano Line of the Year” by MMR Magazine in 2003, 2004 and 2005. After a successful 18-year tenure, the RX Series was replaced by the much-anticipated GX BLAK Series in 2013.

Advanced Precision from ABS Stryan

Kawai has the most advanced piano research and development facilities in the world. Selected action components within this piano are made of high-tech materials including ABS Stryan. High-stress polymer technology has allowed Kawai engineers to scientifically apply this technology in Kawai’s Ultra Responsive piano action. The results are improved piano performance, superior musical tone and extended durability. Over a quarter of a century of intense testing has proven these materials to be superior to wood in critical actions areas.”

This piano was purchased new in Albuquerque at the long-time Kawai and Steinway & Sons authorized representative, Washburn Music in 2000. It is a one-owner and lived its life so far under just one roof. It has been here in this arid climate and it is happily acclimated and well adjusted to the low humidity. These are durable, low-maintenance, well-built pianos and it should give decades of musical enrichment to the next owner. The piano had very little playing time so there is minimal wear in the action and other moving parts. It is in excellent condition – structurally and aesthetically. Only the best technicians have serviced the piano. We are happy to warrant the instrument for two years. We had to do very little to it in the 88 Keys Piano Restoration shop and it was in nearly sell-able condition when we acquired it. The original matching bench with storage is included. Complimentary local, first-floor professional delivery is also included.

Janssen Spinet Piano

Janssen Spinet Piano

Compact apartment piano.

“A good used piano”. That is an apt description of this instrument. It would be ideal for a beginners first, inexpensive piano as they embark on the exciting journey of learning music. We will be happy to take it back on trade for a full reimbursement toward a better piano later when the pianists skills evolve and they have grown out of it. It also has the benefit of its compact size. This piano was built in 1965 though in piano-years it is much younger, having been played sparingly. It has been more of a piece of décor than a working piano. It has lived in Albuquerque for decades so it is happily acclimated to our unique climate and won’t have any service issues. There is minimal wear on the hammers and damper felts plus the other moving action parts, for its age. The structural integrity is excellent, including the soundboard and bridges. All of the tuning pins are tight. It spent a week in our restoration shop and received the normal tuning, minor action regulations and thorough cleaning of the interior. We are happy to offer a two-year warranty. The original matching bench is included. Complimentary local, first-story professional delivery is also included.

The Uber sleek, modern Scandinavian cabinet design of this stylish piano has elements of beauty, simplicity and functionality. It is built from teakwood, a tropical hardwood species of tree that is known for its density, durability and water resistance. This makes it popular with furniture manufacturers, boat construction and the occasional piano builder. Teak is known for its beauty and lovely, warm golden-brown lustrous glow and generally straight grain pattern. It also has a pleasant scent, similar to leather. Teak has a lively appearance in a well-lit New Mexico room and it won’t fade either like other piano finishes will when exposed to natural UV light. We enhanced it with a treatment of teak oil to help preserve its longevity. The simplicity of this oil finish is that it is absorbed into the natural wood, rather than a more complex top-coat finish like lacquer or shellac. Scandinavian furniture design is known to incorporate textiles like fabrics and woven textures. This piano has two rattan-material front panels that allow the sound waves from the bass section of the soundboard to emanate out into the room for a better bass response, rather than be blocked by a solid 3/4-inch wooden panel. These “tone-escapement” vents account for the functionality of its Scandinavian design.

Young Chang model G-185 Grand Piano

Young Chang model G-185 Grand Piano

Young Chang 6’-1” Conservatory Grand Piano.

What a delight to play! What clarity! What a robust and strong bass response! And the individual tones are distinguishable in a harmony, not muddy and unfocused. The tenor is rich and warm with a center-mellow timbre. The treble is rounded and bell-like due to its Duplex scale design, not tinny, metallic and non-melodic. 6’-1” is a very nice size. It allows longer bass strings that are able to vibrate with more power and vibrate longer for a lengthy duration of sustain. The soundboard is larger in area also, and like a larger speaker cone, it pushes more air as it vibrates, creating larger soundwaves that are a pleasure for the senses. This affordable piano would be suitable for a serious player, a music school, a House of Worship or a performance venue. It has a touch that enables a wider dynamic range, and it plays responsively, allowing the pianist to perform more expressively. The medium touch-weight (key resistance) is neither too light, nor too heavy because of its well-engineered piano-action geometry. It is designed to be reliable and low maintenance not only to save money, but the aggravation of playing a keyboard that doesn’t play right.

In 1956 the three brothers Kim named Jai-Young, Jai-Chang and Jai-Sup reached an agreement with the Yamaha Piano Company of Japan to sell their pianos in Seoul, South Korea. Korea was recovering from the devastating war, but prospects were bright, and sales were brisk. Economic policies changed and in 1964 they began receiving partially built pianos sent over from Japan to escape stiff tariffs on Japanese goods. They would finish the pianos and then sell them. By 1970, the Kim’s were building complete pianos with Yamaha parts in a large modern factory in Incheon, Korea. Ties were severed with Yamaha in 1975, having become a competitor with their own brand and the Young Chang Piano Company was born. Another factory was built specifically for export and was one of the largest in the world. It has built models for numerous other manufacturers over the years including American Steinway & Sons, Baldwin and Wurlitzer. US distribution began in 1978. In 1990 they acquired Kurzweil Music Systems, a major manufacturer of professional synthesizers and digital pianos. Young Chang expanded into Tianjin, China in 1995 where they built the single largest piano factory in the world to that point in time. Today they are a highly respected musical instrument company.

Yamaha pianos have earned a well-deserved reputation for superior quality control and virtually perfect preparation at the factory. They arrive at the dealer in flawless condition. Reflection – beautiful inside and out.

Many highly respected musicians are Yamaha Artists and endorse these pianos, especially in the pop and jazz genres. Elton John comes to mind, with his bright fire engine red concert grand. One can’t view YouTube musical performances without seeing the ubiquitous Yamaha piano logo in most of them. Incidentally, the logo design is three tuning forks intertwined. They have a crisp, clear tone which is rather pleasing for runs up and down the keyboard. The company also builds excellent digital keyboards, guitars, sound and recording equipment, horns and reed instruments, and much more. Many schools of music have become All-Yamaha Schools as a means to attract students desiring quality musical instruments during their studies and practice. You will find their products nearly everywhere else too: homes, churches, on stage, in the recording studio, and the like.

As always, this piano is sourced locally, per our company policy. It was purchased right here in Albuquerque in 2006 at the local Yamaha piano dealer and has spent its entire life here. So, it is happily acclimated to our unique desert Southwest climate and low relative humidity. It is in excellent condition – structurally and aesthetically and should offer the new owner decades of musical enjoyment. It was played very little so the moving parts in the action have minimal wear. It has always been serviced by competent and knowledgeable technicians. We had only to do our usual dealer prep in our restoration shop and nothing more. That means pitch correction, voicing, tightening action screws, minor action regulation, cleaning inside, etc. It has the classic Yamaha touch; fast, accurate and responsive with an excellent repetition. The tone is classic Yamaha, meaning harmonic-rich and sonorous with an excellent dynamic range. That means the pianist can perform the subtlest pianissimos and most forceful fortissimos. The original bench with storage is included. The finish is a traditional classic polished ebony. Complimentary local first-floor professional delivery is included.

Yamaha model GB1 Grand Piano Lid at 88 Keys Piano Warehouse & Showroom

50% of the soundwaves billow out of the lid and the other half are driven into the floor where your toes feel the vibrations.

The Yamaha model GB1 grand piano replaced the GA1 model in 2005 with an improved scale design and some plate changes for better tuning stability. This model represents the most cost-friendly option in the lineup and it is the smallest grand piano they build. It was built in Yamaha’s modern factory in Jakarta, Indonesia where labor costs are significantly less than in Japan. With over 10,000 individual cataloged parts in this piano and each tiny part having to be handled by human hands, it makes sense to build it where labor costs are less. Also, there are some features that their more expensive models are equipped with but aren’t necessarily a priority for everyone. For instance, the middle pedal is a bass sustain pedal instead of a costly true Sostenuto. It has a standard scale design and not a Duplex scale. There isn’t a lock and the cabinetry and bench are plainer. It doesn’t have a slow-close fallboard, either. But it still has the legendary Yamaha keyboard touch and tone-quality.
