Queen Anne style 5’ Baby Grand Piano.
This adorable, polished mahogany designer grand piano will be the elegant focal point of any formal living room. The cabinet style is traditional Queen Anne, with curved cabriole legs, a graceful, stylized music rack and historically accurate richly toned, red mahogany wood color. Queen Anne furniture often features pad feet, which entails soft, rounded corners that culminate in a flat disk that rests upon the floor, like this piano’s unique legs without the usual cater wheels. The original bench is included, and it has the same thin cabriole legs. The piano was purchased locally in 2006 at the Nordiska Authorized Dealer, Charles Pianos. It is happily acclimated to our unique arid climate. The condition is excellent, structurally and aesthetically. All we needed to do in our restoration shop was tuning and a little regulating. It will offer decades of musical enrichment to the new owner, and a joy to gaze upon.
Graceful Queen Anne furniture style and European inspired tone quality.
Regal appearance with open long lid prop.
The tone is lovely and European inspired. The piano-action is smooth and responsive with a wide dynamic range. Though the piano was built in China, it was assembled with components primarily from Germany. What remains constant is the higher standards to which this piano was built. It features pure virgin wool hammers from the German, Helmut Abel felt factory for durability and tone quality. The precisely engineered strings from the Roslau music wire factory will have better harmonicity and less prone to breakage. The hard-rock maple German Delignit pinblock will keep the piano in tune longer and will be more accurate for the piano-tuner during tuning. The all-important soundboard is solid spruce for purity of tone, not laminated. It features a wet sand-cast plate which is more time-consuming to manufacture. The slow-close fallboard is designed to protect fingers and prevent loud crashes. The middle pedal is a true Sostenuto function.

Nordiska was a one-hundred-year-old Swedish piano manufacturer with a factory in Vetland, Sweden. When the factory went out of business in 1988, the equipment, designs and technology were sold to the Dongbei Piano Company in China, yet successfully holding on to their high European quality. Dongbei translates to “North-east”. Until then, the factory built vertical pianos exclusively. This enabled a line of three sizes of grand piano models to be built, including this five-foot baby grand (152 centimeters). An ongoing technical association relationship with the German piano company, Ibach resulted in computer-controlled production machinery, tooling and designs. In the opinion of many technicians, these grand piano designs were the best of any Chinese manufacturer. This led to Gibson Musical Instruments, the parent company of Baldwin Piano Co. to acquire Dongbei Piano and rename it Baldwin Dongbei and sadly, they ceased production of the staid, venerable Nordiska piano brand in 2007.
