Steinway Model M 5′ 7.5″ in Red Mahogany Lacquer.
Manufactured in 1951 this is a Centennial edition Steinway with original ivory keys. It has been restored with Bolduc pinblock, fresh agraffs and Mapes bass strings – as used in the factory. The soundboard is in excellent condition and retains proper ‘crown’. The action parts have been replaced, also. All the work was done about 5 years ago by our restoration shop for a patron who then graciously donated the piano to the NM Philharmonic.
We are selling this piano on consignment for the Philharmonic to help them in their recent acquisition of a 9′ Steinway concert grand which was personally selected @ Steinway Hall by Olga Kern. This model M features the quintessential “Steinway sound” – strong, clear treble leading down to a deep, rich bass; the dynamic range is wide, ample for its size. This is as good a baby grand as it can get.
The Steinway & Sons model M action is the vanguard of piano actions. You see, Steinway held most of the patents issued to piano manufacturers for action improvements including the patented “Accelerated Action”, which increases repetition speed. The Tubular Metallic action frame ensures precise, permanent alignment of all the action parts. This instrument served duty as a practice piano for Olga and other talented guest artists at the Philharmonic…so there’s some great karma there, too!
Offered for $29,500.
