  One of the finest American hand-made pianos of our day, they are sometimes referred to as the Steinway & Sons of the 21^st century. In the year this piano was built, approximately fourteen-hundred of their pianos were actually finished at their factory in Elkhart, Indiana. Most technicians who encounter a Walter piano are very enthusiastic about them, mostly due to their excellent design and lack of service problems. The scale design provides an unusually smooth transition from the bass to the treble. The treble range sings beautifully and the bass is strong and clear all the way down to the bottom note.

The feel is very even across the keyboard due to exceptionally long keys that are individually lead-weighted and balanced. The piano-action is an American-made Langer built by Herrburger Brooks. The exceptionally thick Delignit pinblock keeps the tuning pins tight between tunings and will do so for decades, providing a more enjoyable playing experience and less costly over time. “If you’re looking for a high-quality, medium-size, US-made vertical piano that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, this is one you should consider.” Larry Fine, author “The Piano Book”.

All cabinet parts of the piano are carefully sanded, given multiple coats of specially formulated lacquer, meticulously hand-rubbed and polished. This finish consists of genuine American black walnut veneers. It uses no particle board in the cabinetry, which is very substantial and beautifully finished. All case parts are of 5-ply lumber-core and solid hardwood construction. The music desk is sturdy and will accommodate large music books like “fake books” that professional pianists use at gigs and its sheet music desk can handle long musical scores a pianist at the community theater may need. The Boston fallboard gently covers the keys and glides effortlessly to protect the sides. The matching bench is original and is duet-sized for two players. The condition of the instrument is excellent – structurally and aesthetically.

The Walter Piano Co. of Elkhart, Indiana is unique among US piano manufacturers in that it is a family business, staffed by Charles and his wife Barbara, several of their grown children and in-laws, in addition to unrelated production employees. Charles is an engineer and prior to building his namesake instrument he headed Piano Design and Engineering for a piano manufacturer doing important research on musical acoustics. Each piano is inspected by a family member before being shipped and that person’s signature can be found on the top of the piano back, underneath the lid. Though Charles has passed on, the company continues to exist today, run by his family.

  The C-series is arguably Yamaha’s most popular professional grand piano line and has had huge financial success. You will find their model C3 in performance venues everywhere including recording studios, piano bars and hotel lobbies, on concert stages and houses of worship. Many highly respected musicians are Yamaha Artists and endorse their pianos. Elton John and Chick Corea come to mind. Many schools of music have become All-Yamaha Schools as a means to attract students desiring quality musical instruments during their studies and practice. They will become the future concert pianists, studio musicians, recording artists, music professors and even high school teachers and band directors. A quick search and view of YouTube videos featuring a pianist will confirm the popularity of these instruments. The Yamaha website states that the C-series is “the most recorded piano in history” and “some of the most timeless hits have been recorded on a Yamaha C-series piano”.

The tuning pins are very tight in the pinblock and it will hold its tune longer than most other models in the industry. The pinblock allows the tuning pins to move smoothly enabling a “true” concert tuning. The strings are extremely clean and free of rust and other corrosions. The hammer and damper felts have minimal wear. The piano-action and trapwork has been regulated to the highest standards and the piano is ready for the next performance. It is in excellent condition – structurally and aesthetically, nearly new and should offer you decades of musical enjoyment. We will be happy to offer a two-year warranty on the piano.

Yamaha has had a well-deserved reputation for superior quality control and virtually perfect preparation at the factory. They arrive at the dealership in flawless condition. Technicians are enthusiastic about servicing them due to their exceptional engineering design. The Yamaha model C3 grand piano is a part of the Yamaha Conservatory Collection. The C-series line of pianos were built in the main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan. The C-series grands differ from the less costly G-series in that the former have harder and denser rims made from beech and mahogany which improves power and duration of sustain, slightly better plate composition and improved scaling. They have additional factories situated in China and Indonesia where their lesser-quality piano lines are built. Lower labor costs there enable more economical price points for their entry and mid-level models.

It has somewhat of a percussive attack and the tone is very clear which is attractive to most listeners. A duet bench with storage is included. The C3 features a Duplex scale design with Aliquots that tune the non-speaking length of the strings to vibrate at musically pleasing frequencies, matching the speaking length.

  Designed for schools, practice rooms and teaching studios, the Yamaha model P22 Studio Upright piano is often chosen by experienced pianists for both home and professional use. It is often regarded as the best bargain in the entire Yamaha line partly because it is priced low to compete for school bids. Their uprights are also popular in performance venues, houses of worship and recording studios. Just watch music videos on YouTube and you’ll see their their pianos represented well.

Yamaha professional upright models are widely used in the practice rooms of music schools due to their durability and tolerance of abuse. A practice room piano can be signed-up for, and played for hours every day of the school week, for decades. The model P22 has a reputation for being a low maintenance instrument. This saves the Institution money of course but it also insures that the music students are practicing on an in-tune instrument that performs well mechanically. They are designed for reliability and stability in adverse environments, then constructed with Yamaha’s legendary quality control.

This piano was built in 1998 and played very little so it has minimal amounts of wear in the action. Thankfully, it was never located in a school, just light use in a home. The structural condition is excellent. The cabinet lid has some patina, but the aesthetics are good otherwise. It was purchased new here in Albuquerque right up the street at the Authorized Yamaha piano dealership, Music World so it is happily acclimated and fully adjusted to our lack of humidity. We will be happy to warrant the piano for two years.

The piano was in excellent condition when we received it and needed very little. We cleaned the instrument inside and out, tuned it to pitch and regulated the action in the 88 Keys Piano Restoration shop so it performs optimally. The touch is classic Yamaha; expressive, accurate and responsive. The tone quality is lovely. The bass tones are particularly robust, the tenor is rich and the treble sings clear and bell-like. This Yamaha piano is conceivably a life-time purchase.

Built in the USA, the Yamaha model P22 studio upright piano cabinetry is suitable for a casual or formal home décor. It isn’t fancy, but stately and handsome with a traditional American appearance. The cabinet is finished in Red Oak veneers with a satin lacquer finish. It has an ample-sized music desk with sheet music lip that can accommodate larger music books or multi-page musical charts or scores. There is a fallboard lock to protect the keys and a lid lock to restrict access to the inside. The Boston-style fallboard is the two-piece folding type that is more secure and won’t slam shut, nor will it warp, get stuck and scratch the sides. The four dual-wheel casters are sturdy hard rubber so it can be moved easily without damaging the floor. The original duet bench suitable for two players is included. It has storage, too. So is local, first-floor professional delivery.

  One of the most sought after and recommended preowned models on the market, they don’t come around very often (or nearly often enough). Designed for the experienced pianist and professional musician, the Yamaha model U1 Studio Upright piano is built in the main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan and offers outstanding musical performance, setting the standards by which many other upright pianos are measured. The “workhorse” model U1 is a part of the Yamaha Classic Collection. A perennial favorite among discerning pianists, they feature outstanding tone, touch and durability. The U-series has historically been Yamaha’s most popular vertical piano line and has had huge financial success. They have had a very long production life for the piano industry. Numerous other models have been tried for a while and then discontinued or have evolved with a new feature and been renamed, but the U1 has endured. Living space is at a premium in Japan and Europe so fewer grands are sold, making a strong case for a high-quality upright like this. Yamaha also has factories situated in China and Indonesia where their lesser quality lines of pianos are built. Lower labor costs there enable more economical price points, however discerning pianists normally find the Japanese models more desirable.

So, it is happily acclimated and well-adjusted to our unique desert Southwest climate. It was played very little so the moving parts in the action have modest wear for its age. It is in good condition – structurally and should offer the next owner years of musical fulfillment. We only had to perform our usual dealer prep and nothing more in the 88 Keys Piano restoration shop. That means pitch correction, voicing, tightening of action screws, minor action regulation, and a thorough cleaning inside. It would be an excellent choice for a rehearsal or practice piano for a serious player or an educational instrument in a teaching studio. Hurry on this particular piano, it won’t be here long!

Steinway & Sons 45-inch Professional’s Piano.

  The Steinway & Sons reputation has been established around the world on concert stages, by Concert Grands. The vertical, however, is an integral part of Steinway history and tradition. Most piano technicians consider a tall 45” upright piano to be a better value than most small grands. It certainly has lengthier strings and a larger soundboard. Both contribute to a bigger tone and longer sustain. The company began building vertical “cottage pianos” well over a century ago and today the vertical is a significant part of Steinway’s production. In the 19^th century parlor, in the 20^th century apartment and conservatory practice room, the need for a fine upright piano has always existed. A piano built in the Steinway & Sons tradition which takes up less space than a grand piano and still offers the best qualities of tone and touch which have become the Steinway hallmark. The Steinway upright piano is every inch a Steinway. It is built by the same men, in the same plant, of the same materials as a Steinway & Sons Grand.

This Steinway model 45 studio upright piano was purchased brand new at the original Albuquerque Steinway & Sons Authorized dealership, Reidling Music in 1978. It lived in a beautiful home in Albuquerque then moved to Corrales in 1999 where it had lived since. It is in excellent condition – structurally and aesthetically, and we will be happy to offer a two-year warranty. Because it has lived its entire life in this unique climate it is happily acclimated and well-adjusted, and ought to offer the new owner decades of musical joy and gratification. We have thoroughly cleaned the interior, regulated the piano-action, inspected the structural integrity for strength in the vital areas like the soundboard, bridges and pinblock then brought the pitch to A-440. The piano is ready for a serious player, a music school or a recording studio. We have priced it very attractively, so hurry, it won’t last!

The model 45 also features the Steinway patented Accelerated Action™ (Patented 1936), enhancing the action to respond to the touch instead of being forced into action. Laboratory tests have proven that the keys on a Steinway can repeat 13% more quickly than any other piano. The same features that allow this faster repeat also provide a much more sensitive, responsive keyboard, an aspect that can be appreciated even by beginning pianists. The keys are made of Bavarian spruce. The quarter-sawn maple action parts are mounted on a Steinway Metallic Action Frame™ (Patented 1868 and 1875), which consists of a seamless brass tube with rosette-shaped contours, force fitted with maple dowels and brass hangers to assure the stability of the regulation. The model K also features a pedal normally only found on grand pianos, the true Sostenuto™ (Patented 1874) pedal. It is the middle pedal and it allows the pianists to determine which keys they want to resonate and sound, and those they want to dampen and not sound.

The Steinway model 45 upright piano has the same Diaphragmatic Soundboard™ (Patented 1936) as their grands where during manufacturing, far more fine Sitka spruce is left on the floor than actually goes into the soundboard. The craftsmen expertly locate the very best cuts and discard the rest. The soundboard is considered to be the soul of the piano. The model 45 features the same Hexagrip Pinblock™ (Patented 1963) too. It is made by laminating seven layers of Canadian hardrock maple in a staggered grain formation. Each subsequent layer of the lamination offsets the grain angle by 45 to 90 degrees. The result is an even distribution of grain direction throughout the pinblock. This ensures that at least one layer has its grain directly in line with the stress acting on the pin. This technique allows the tuner to place the pin in the exact optimal location for a true “Concert Tuning”. That is the secret to how Steinway’s are able to maintain their world-renowned sound far beyond their last tuning.
